Club History

 

Hawarden Institute Camera Club was founded in 1968, and has had regular meetings ever since.

 

  • 1968 - Club founded, and rules drafted.  The club is officially formed as a section of Hawarden Institute.

  • 1969 - First regular meetings take place.

  • 1970 - Club President is E.W. Gladstone.  Chairman is Walter Knowles.

  • 1972 - Chairman is David Jeffery

  • 1975 - Chairman is Edward Evans.

  • 1976 - Chairman is Frank Houghton.

  • 1981 - Chairman is George Butler.

  • 1984 - Chairman is Frank Houghton.

  • 1985 - The club stages photo exhibition at Buckley Library

  • 1987 - Dave Buckley wins the club's Photographer of the Year with photos from his exhibition "Speed of Light" at Connahs Quay Library.  Club stages exhibition at Deeside High School.

  • 1989 - Club outing to National Museum of Photography, Film and Television, Bradford. The coach breaks down on the M6 on the return journey!

  • 1990 - Club has 21st Birthday dinner.  Also a painting of club members by Joe Chesters is commissioned (the painting still hangs in the club room).

  • 1991 - Club exhibition held at Hawarden Library.

  • 1992 - Chairman is Alan Minnery.  Deeside Festival Photographic Competition is won by Dave Bennett, for his picture "Flint by Night".

  • 1993 - The club hosts charity auction in aid of Hope House Children's Hospice.

  • 1997 - Chairman is N. Charlesworth.

  • 1999 - Club hosts open day to mark re-opening of the refurbished Institute building.

  • 2000 - Club stages joint exhibition with Buckley Camera Club to mark the Millennium.

  • 2001 - Chairman is Fred Snowden.

  • September 2001 - Dave Bennet wins Certificate of Special Merit in the Chester Zoo Photographic Competition.

  • 2002 - Fred Snowden presents a slideshow entitled "Orlando Attractions" in aid of club funds.

  • 2004 - The club presents a digital slideshow of Hawarden Village Old and New, to commemorate 150 years of the Institute's existence.

  • 2007 - The club supports the Christmas Tree Festival at Hawarden Parish Church, in aid of repairs to the Church heating system.  The church is filled with decorated Christmas Trees, each sponsored and decorated by the exhibitors.

  • 2008 - Club celebrates 40 years.  This website is launched.  Club hosts anniversary photographic exhibition in Hawarden Library.  Membership stands at 20 members.  Club Chairman is Fred Snowden.
